Journeyman Education Training

Enrollment Qualifications

Considering the responsibility of the Waterloo and Mason City Electrical Apprenticeship Training & Educational Trust to provide continuing education and upgrade training to the Journeymen Wiremen and Low Voltage Technicians of IBEW 288, the “Trust” has set forth the following policy regarding the qualifications of the participants attending any training class or session offered by the “Trust”.

Qualifying Standards- participant must meet one of the following:

  1. Must actively be working for a signatory contractor of IBEW 288.  This includes traveling IBEW members from other locals, book II, III, or IV referrals, since all will be paying contributions to the “Trust” through provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  2. Must be an IBEW 288 member, actively seeking work in the IBEW 288 jurisdiction, and signed to the IBEW 288 out-of-work list.
  3. Must be an IBEW 288 member, actively working for a signatory electrical contractor in another jurisdiction or IBEW local.

Training opportunities for non-qualifying persons

If an individual desires to participate in a JW training class and does not meet one of the above qualifying standards, the “Trust” will consider on an individual basis, allowing the individual to participate under certain circumstances, which may include:

  1. An IBEW 288 member not currently working for a signatory electrical contractor and not signed on the IBEW 288 out-of-work list. (Ex: an IBEW 288 member working outside of the industry, such as a maintenance worker for an unaffiliated company or self-employed, etc.)
  2. An IBEW member of another local other than IBEW 288, but not currently working for an IBEW 288 signatory contractor. Being signed on the IBEW 288 out-of-work list does not make this person qualified.
  3. Non-qualifying individuals who are approved for training will be allowed to participate only after qualifying members have had the opportunity to register for training. If there are available spots one week before the scheduled class date, the non-qualifying individuals will then be registered.

*Monetary charge for non-qualifying persons will be charged at a rate of $15.00 per credit hour of training.

Any person that is registered for a training class and is a no-show without an advance notice to the training center a minimum of 24 hours prior to the scheduled class will be assessed a “no-show” charge of $50.00.

The “Trust” reserves the right to accept or deny training to any prospective participant as it sees fit based upon the need to control the quality and quantity of training, and the safety of its staff and facilities.

This policy is necessary to provide maximum opportunity for each class to have full enrollment.
